P+S Personnel are pleased to be working on behalf of our clients, based in Norwich, who are currently recruiting for a Senior Engineer to join their team on a full time, permanent basis.

Job Purpose:
Using significant experience to undertake outline and detailed designs of offshore and onshore platform and building structures on projects of varying sizes within the Oil & Gas, Renewable and Construction sectors, working confidently on own initiative with some guidance from the Associate/Principle engineer. Negotiating and obtaining relevant client and local authority approvals and project co ordination – ensuring best value solutions are achieved on time and within budget.

Roles & Responsibilities:
• Working on own initiative carrying out analysis for the production of suitable structural designs, ensuring compliance with structural and offshore design. Code, including AISC, ISO, API, Eurocode, and British Standard, DNV, British Building Standards & Euro Codes.
• Mentor and manage Graduate Engineer and Technicians to include personal development plans (PDP’s), Training Needs Analysis (TNA’s) and Appraisal meetings aiding their development and career advancement.
• Manage man hours of technicians and engineers on a project specific basis and work within financial guidelines as laid down for each individual project
• Utilising extensive knowledge and undertake further research where necessary to identify optimum design in order to provide clients with comprehensive and value driven solutions
• Proficient in the writing and interpretation of survey/design reports and calculations
• Support Regional Manager with Technical reviews for fee proposals
• Acts as coordinator for all feasibility work allocated to the office
• Ensure compliance with project quality management system and health and safety procedures identifying project reviews internally with Principal Engineer
• Communicating and liaising effectively with internal colleagues, architects, subcontractors, external consultants and clients
• Attend meetings and build positive relations with a variety of external agencies such as Contractors, clients, local authorities etc.
• Ensure drawings comply with design intent and coordinated with project information
• Supports Associate/Principal Engineer with areas of projects deemed ‘High Risk’
• Production of design calculations for obtaining relevant local authority approvals
• Work within deadlines whilst maintaining accuracy and efficiency
• Take responsibility for own development and CPD
• Take care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts and omissions
• Co-operate and abide by Company policies and procedures and promoting equality and diversity as part of everyday working

• Work allocated by ‘project specific’ Associate/Principal Engineer
• Directly responsible for Technicians
• General guidelines and specific instructions are provided within Company procedures handbook, Staff Handbook and on the intranet system - Workspace
• Work is reviewed on a quarterly basis and this is underpinned with a formal annual appraisal held in April each year. Within this process Personal Development Plans (PDP’s) and training needs are identified and agreed
• Objectives are set under four key business areas – Operations, Finance, Customer and People reflecting and linking to overall business strategy
• External relations will include Architects, Contractors, Agencies, Clients and Suppliers

Person Specification:
• Chartered Engineer MIStructE
• Current full driving licence
• Significant previous experience of managing whole design process from draft to full co-ordinated layouts.
• Previous experience in the design and day to day running of a variety of projects including Retail, Industrial, Residential and Commercial – working with all common construction materials
• Overcoming obstacles and recommending best fit solutions to clients
• Sound previous experience of liaising professionally with external clients and agencies
• Ability to promote a positive and effective service offering Report writing
• Sound knowledge of British & Euro-Codes of Practice for design & Health & Safety
• Sound analytical and problem-solving skills
• Understanding of varying engineering techniques
• Microsoft office suite
• Excellent attention to detail
• Professional and smartly presented
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work on own initiative whilst overseeing the work of the team
• Motivated and approachable
• Ability to multi-task and work under pressure
• Ability and desire to deliver right first time approach to all work
• Willingness and ability to travel to external suppliers clients and other offices
