P+S Personnel are pleased to be working on behalf of our clients, who are currently seeking a Production Engineer to join their team based in Lowestoft, on a full time permanent position.

The purpose of this role is to recommend & implement effective optimal manufacturing processes, co-ordinate, implement & help manage new product for both internal & external 3rd party manufacturing, help lead the company regarding manufacturing technology and process, monitor & measure and report manufacturing output improvements.

Key Tasks and Skills:
• Company expert concerning manufacturing technology and process. Specifically, to be fully competent in the operation, programming and troubleshooting of all CNC & NC and manually operated plant used by the Company. Ensuring that all Company products are manufactured at optimal efficiency at the required high quality.
• Assist with specification of manufacturing plant to meet business need, producing and communicating business case. Collaboratively and flexibly working with other departments and other members of the Design and Engineering Team – ensuring all process improvement and new process are appropriately trained into Manufacturing.
• Developing manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors in order to effectively utilise equipment, personnel and materials to maximise production output and quality.
• To actively lead, develop and implement the company’s manufacturing processes with a scientific approach to problem solving and measurement of results.
• Improving manufacturing efficiency by analysing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout, providing data (labour times etc) to aid manufacturing decision-making.
• Provide coaching and training to production resources in all new manufacturing processes ensuring documentation is in place and knowledge transfer can be measured.
• Assuring product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes.
• Liaising with relevant parties to ensure new and modified equipment, processes and systems meet regulatory and internal company requirements.
• Prepare product and process reports by collecting, analysing, and summarizing information and trends.
• Ensuring equipment remains operational by establishing maintenance and repair programmes; following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures; requesting special service.
• Responsible for management of plant servicing, maintenance and calibration.
• Maintaining product and process data base by establishing record systems for data collection.
• Liaising with all members of the Design and Engineering Team during product development/prototype phases to ensure optimise Design for Manufacture (DfM), supporting Design for Test and Cost.
• Generating productivity and quality related KPI’s in order to drive performance improvements and mange non-conformities.
• Maintaining professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional bodies. i.e. Lean manufacturing methodologies
• Assist with project and budget management at appropriate level, including reporting, analysis and action to drive efficiency improvement.
• Strong and current foundation in modern and traditional manufacturing and workshop processes, with a bias towards steel and aluminium ‘batch’ product manufacturing
• Ability to produce, issue and interpret engineering drawings
• Experience of Jig design / production
• Recruitment of technical experts, setters and operatives.
• Understanding of measurement techniques, calibration and tolerancing

Person Specification:
• Proven ability to motivate, lead and communicate
• An obvious passion and deep interest in manufacturing and engineering
• Scientific, analytical, data driven approach, able to demonstrate the intellectual ability to program and help develop complex CNC plant and process.
• Ability to comprehend the big business picture while simultaneously appreciating the smallest detail
• Fully conversant and trained in CAD/CAM
• Ability to work without direct supervision
• Self-motivated, target driven
• Understanding and practical use of total quality and Lean Manufacturing Methodologies
• Computer literate - Microsoft office suite
• Mathematical and applied mechanical ability
• Understanding of MRPII systems
• Understanding of Mechanical Engineering and shop floor processes
• Good knowledge of Company markets
• Awareness, understanding of and adherence to Company Ltd Health & Safety policy at all times
• Comply with Company HR policies
• GCSEs Grade A-C in Maths and English
• A-levels or equivalent
• Degree in Production/Manufacturing Engineering or Similar qualification or proven experience
• > 5 years’ experience of working in a batch production environment

Working hours – 45 hours per week.
